Synopsis:

In May and June of 1940, Dunkirk became the stage of a significant turning point during World War II. Over the span of nine days, Operation Dynamo—commonly known as the Battle of Dunkirk—enabled the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers to Britain. This largely underappreciated yet decisive operation played a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the war. Concerned that their troops were trapped and facing imminent defeat, British forces orchestrated a daring sea evacuation under constant threat from aerial assaults and advancing German armies. A diverse flotilla of vessels—including famed "Little Ships" composed of warships, merchant vessels, fishing boats, and yachts—converged to rescue nearly 340,000 soldiers, among them 120,000 French troops. This event was notably dramatized in Christopher Nolan’s 2017 film "Dunkirk."
